Appreciation – Mintonette (2025)

I grew to eventually represent Singapore in Sea Games 2015 with 5 years of volleyball experience, and a huge contribution comes from Mr Lim’s coaching. It was his guidance on and offthe courts that have brought me to juggle between the taxing commitments between my studies and volleyball, the sport that grew to be my passion that accompanied me through my academic pursuit to be an Architect. Even at club level, his relationship and respect for his players and alumnus sees us continued to play under his coaching and won prizes and competitions at different level.

Mr Lim is undoubtedly one of the best volleyball coaches in Singapore with tremendous experience and leadership. I have immense respect for him and I will strongly recommend all volleyball learners to learn under his coaching.

I started playing volleyball at a very young age, at about 7 years old. When i went on to secondary school, that’s where i met Coach Lim. I’ve been playing under him ever since.

No doubt Coach Lim’s training is vigorous and hard to keep up at times, but he never gave up on me and sent me to numerous overseas training to further hone my skills. Under the guidance of Coach Lim, i was skilled enough to represent Singapore in the 2015 SEA Games.

I highly recommend Coach Lim and Mintonette Academy. The professionalism and passion of Coach Lim and what they do is second to none.

Coach Lim and Coach Tan have been vital in my volleyball journey through the years from primary school to my university days.

Through the different playing styles, challenges and skills i had in each phase, Coach Tan was able to patiently coach me in the best way i could learn and i am grateful for his mentorship both in the game of volleyball and of life itself.

As a head coach, Coach Lim has also been invaluable in developing not just my technical skills but also my understanding of the game. with his keen eye and strategic acumen, he is able to grow teams with strong foundations in gameplay and technique.

My volleyball journey began with Coach Luo who used his fiery passion for volleyball and coaching, to build a solid foundation in both my technical skillset and mental strength. He taught me not just volleyball, but values that I hold true, even till today. Coach Luo creates magic in his players not through dull and repetitive drills but through challenges and games. Under his guidance, players will develop intrinsic motivation to work hard, and excel.

In my college and university days, I continue to be blessed with coaches like Coach Tan and Coach Lim. Coach Tan and Coach Lim use their wits and wealth of experience to enhance my strengths and minimise my weaknesses. They are able to manifest a higher level of play in the team using strategic gameplay, laid upon well founded teamwork. Apart from coaching technical skills, Coach Luo, Coach Lim and Coach Tan goes the extra mile to care for players in their team. They have indeed prepared me holistically, to be qualified and ready, to train in the National Team.

I started volleyball when I was 13. I did not know volleyball was a sport back in primary school until I went to Shuqun Secondary School, where I met Coach Lim. Till this day I am still playing under him.

Coach Lim’s training was rough and was definitely a challenge but he always found ways to make the players reach their maximum potential. I was given many opportunities ever since I started playing under Coach Lim, like playing at a higher level both locally and overseas to allow me to learn and better improve my skills.

I was part of the last Shuqun Secondary School batch to compete under Coach Lim and it was special for both the players and Coach Lim. We managed to clinch first in zonal and 3rd for nationals. It has been a while since Shuqun made it to top 4 for nationals and we were proud of our achievements.

I will definitely recommend Coach Lim and Mintonette Academy if you wish to start your volleyball experience.
